Newport News Fire Damages Home on Dimmock Avenue; One Resident Displaced
Newport News, Va. — Firefighters quickly brought a residential structure fire under control Thursday evening on Dimmock Avenue, with no injuries reported and one resident displaced, according to the Newport News Fire Department (NNFD).

Crews responded to the scene around 5 p.m. on July 2, 2026, arriving within four minutes. The fire was under control by approximately 6:15 p.m. Firefighters rotated shifts due to the extreme heat conditions that day.
The resident inside the home heard smoke detectors activating, noticed smoke, and safely exited the property before firefighters arrived. No one required medical attention.
Photos released by the Newport News Fire Department show significant damage to the home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
