Shooting Reported at home owned by Newport News Deputy Court Clerk

NEWPORT NEWS, VA — A shooting was reported early this morning on Lanyard Rd at a home owned by Tanya Badgett, who appears to be employed by the Newport News General District Court. As of 7/13/2026 5:15 AM EST no arrests have been made. Badgett’s daughter, Juliana, has multiple pending cases involving methamphetamine and drug use, along with prior charges that include maintaining a “bawdy house,” felony eluding, and assault / battery.

A shooting was reported at a home owned by Tanya Badgett early this morning off Colony Rd near the interection of Lucas Creek Rd. We are working to gather more details about the incident (EMS scanner audio available for download below)

  • Juliana Rochelle Badgett is currently on bail out of Cheaspeak for multiple charges including possession of Methamphetamine, possession of psychedelic mushrooms,  and elude. Court Date 08/10/2026
  • Juliana Rochelle Badgett is also pending a case in Newport news for driving 98 in a 65 MPH zone. Court date 09/14/2026

 Juliana Rochelle Badgett faces multiple recent charges from August 1, 2025, in Chesapeake General District Court, including two counts of possession of Schedule I or II drugs (18.2-250), fleeing from law enforcement (18.2-460(E)), felony eluding/disregarding police (46.2-817(B)), and improper passing on the right (46.2-841). These cases are scheduled for hearing on Aug 10, 2026.

She also has several prior traffic-related offenses, such as speeding (including in a school zone and over 80 mph), reckless driving, no driver's license in possession, and passing a stopped school bus, spanning from 2016 to 2025.

Older cases include a 2015 assault and battery charge, a 2018 maintaining a bawdy house (18.2-347) charge along with failure to register at a hotel, and a 2021 charge related to prank phone calls.

Overall, her record shows a pattern of repeated traffic violations alongside more serious drug possession and eluding police charges in 2025.
